Have just watched and enjoyed this again for the umpteenth time. I never tire of it or the series. I've read all the location information, the actor notes and the blooper anecdotes. But there's one question I've never found out the answer to. That lovely white horse in the film that stands so obediently on that raft as it floats down the river. Where was it from? Hubby thinks it may be a circus horse and I reckon it could just be a police horse. Maybe it was just a very well trained horse from a specialist trainer. Does anyone know anything about it?
I can't help you on your specific question, but,do you happen to know the real village that represents Warmington on Sea in last nights feature film.I will never stop laughing at this series. My wife asked me last night whilst, like you, watching it for the umpteenth time.Your help would be appreciated.
Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire was transformed into Walmington-on-Sea while other scenes were shot at Seaford in Sussex and at Shepperton Studios. The famous scene with the white horse on the raft heading down river was filmed at Chobham in Surrey.
Can't help you with the horse either .I love Dad's Army though and laugh myself silly over it even after watching them for the umpteenth time :)
Thanks for your info shaneystar2 Small world.I live close to Chobham,my father was in a residential care home in Seaford and a friend's son and daughter-in-law live in Chalfont St Peter.
I don't know if it's the same horse, but I do know that Gerry Cott had a very well trained white horse, that has done various adverts,I'll put in the link, but as I say, I don't know if it is the same horse.
