I have been taking supplemental vitamin D3 for approx. three years now. I am wondering if there is an effect on my hypertension which seems to be suggested
in Wikiepedia. I am currently taking 75ug - Wikiepedia advises:
Suggested tolerable upper intake level (UL)[edit]
Based on risk assessment, a safe upper intake level of 250 µg (10,000 IU) per day in healthy adult has been suggested.[10][11]
I am 68years, male and reasonably active, taking amlodipine and Levothyroxine plus a normal dose of some other supplements. I'm 5ft 4ins and 72 kilos (approx) Cholesterol 5.30 (recent test)

For reasons best know to you, you are taking quite a modest dose of vitamin D3 which no study has shown avh long term deleterious affects.
You are also taking a modest dose of a hypotensive agent which had no interaction, that I know, with D3
Thyroxine of course is a replacement.
I cannot see any problem either now or in the future with your regime.
Have I missed your point?

Thanks Sqad and Pixie373.
My concern is hypertension and anything which may exacerbate that. There is a section in the link which points out a contributary factor to HT, however that may be so in an overdose situation(which I may have done about a year ago).
I take supplements of my own accord as I am fairly convinced on alternative remedies and preventive supplements as I do have bit of mistrust with GPs and their unhealthy links with drug companies.
Pixie373 -I may give a try to cutting my D3 dose and monitor my BP and see how it goes.....
Thanks again!

well you could say I am a biochemist and pharmacologist
Your dose is one third of the upper recommended dose.
even with outliers and so on, this dose will not show a supramaximal effect.
in plain English the D3 is not connected with your hypertension.
as someone else said - do the experiment - stop taking it and see if your blood pressure comes down. (it wont)
finally you havent told us what your bloor pressure currently is....

Sorry, I forgot BP reading- at my GP I seem to suffer 'white coat syndrome'. That reading was150/85. Using my own machine at home I have had two readings as low as 124/75. Over the las six months, I have lost just under a stone although GP says I have some more to go. - My fitness advisor, on the other hand was full of praise as I didn't have a lot to lose to begin with!
Fortunately, I have also managed to get my GPs approval to come off Simvastatin in recent months.....Now my target is the HT meds....
Thanks for your input everyone! Seasons Greetings!
