We are in the testing phase of a new, stronger fraud filter for our donation processing — to protect Mozilla as well as supporters like you. As with any new system, we conduct extensive testing, and during testing the filter was left at an extremely high threshold. This setting is so strict, it denied about 70% of all donations made over a 36-hour period beginning on December 26th.
We caught the error quickly and fixed the problem, but your gift was one of 1,796 denied transactions — that’s about 1.5% of all transactions during the campaign. From your end, everything looked good — you wouldn’t have seen any error messages, and our system even accidentally sent you a receipt. To be clear, we didn't detect anything wrong or suspicious about your donation, this was our error.
