This year the display over the Thames was so pretty to see (we watched on TV) but how can they justify the enormous cost? Almost £2million just going up in smoke ..............

Now I have read and considered your replies I tend to agree with you all, if it promotes tourism I guess that is a good enough reason to spend. I also agree with trt that it's better than giving free handouts to all and sundry who probably contribute nothing to this country.

I did enjoy the spectacle, it was very well put together, just a minor complaint from me about the horrid loud accompanying music, but think that is just my opinion and my more conservative taste in music!

Ann, yes, the music meant nothing to me and it didn't seem to give any sort of format the fireworks, no buidling up and dying down and building up again. I enjoyed last year's show - more "shape" to it.
most big cities seem to do this now. I don't begrudge the cost, i rarely get to see it, but can hear it alright.
did you not see the interviewer 'passing the brolly' along the front row barrier to ask the public to give a few messages? Most of them were tourists! London knows how to put on a good party!
we do, however its a bit packed for my liking.
