You'll get told take it for a good long run up a motorway at speed by various people here and it's worth a try sounds like it doesn't see a lot of use but it doesn't sound like a narrow miss.
If it doesn't fix the problem then I'd guess you might have something wrong with one of the sensors and you'll need to get it hooked up to a diagnostic computer
As long as there are no warning lights (orange engine shaped light, or similar) then I agree with Jake, give it a blast up a fast road keep it in 4th and hold it at around 3000 revs. Does it idle smoothly?
