Can anyone recommend a good book for teaching and learning the game of Chess to children aged between 9 and 12.

Must have diagrams and be easy to understand the rules.

I'll check back here on Tuesday for feedback.
TIA.

Perhaps this is the sort of book for which you are looking.

For learning something like chess, books are okay, but if you know someone who can play the game - even at a minor level - it would be a good idea for the children to sit with him/her for a few sessions just to get the hang of the moves.

Thank you for the replies. A couple of good book recommendations that I will definitely check out. Both have good reviews from readers on Amazon.
Shame they don't have the 'Look Inside' feature.

I haven't played chess since my school days, so I need to brush up on my game before passing the book on to the others to read and giving them a game and help them understand the gameplay. I wasn't very good back then.

The interest in chess came about because we are planning on having a games night that doesn't involve Game Consoles i.e. XBox or Playstation.
Chess, Draughts, Connect 4 and other board games only.

Thank you all for your help. Appreciated.
Checkmate.

PS - Well done on your award - you must be really good ;o)
