Bay of Biscay might be fun at present. Certainly a slower crossing.

It's 600 land miles. about 27/28 hours.

I've done it (well, Plymouth to Santander, actually).That crossing is 20 hours and I believe those from Portsmouth are a little bit longer.

I should also say that it was horrendous (and I went in July). I do not suffer "mal de mere" but I came quite close in mid Biscay. It cost me around £400 return (with a car) and I then had to drive across to Barcelona and face an eight hour crossing to Palma Mallorca. Fortunately the Med was a little kinder to us.

I had to travel that way as I was carting some stuff to a friend's apartment. I would not do it again.

shouldn't be any need these days - Calais to Barcelona is easily driven in under 13 hours via the A75 (Meridienne and Millau Viaduct).

We sailed from Santander to Plymouth and the Bay of Biscay was like a sheet of glass! We even saw dolphins and a beautiful setting sun. I was quite prepared for it to be rough but we were very lucky! Mind you it was May and not mid-winter.

When we used to travel several times a year to SW. France we found that the easiest/.quickest for us was to take the hydrofoil frm Weymouth or Poole to St Malo then down pas Nantes then Bordeaux. The morning ferry gets ino St. Malo at lunch time and you can get down to the Spanish border by midnght including a stop for lunch and supper. The driving time is 7 hours.
