Apparently they had been warned and a coastguard had to stay back from doing other things to ensure that the rescue services were called out if needed.

I remember our walking club went down to Cornwall for the christmas walk and on the day we left, it was really stormy. Some of the members decided they were going to spend the last morning jumping over the waves. I told them they were mad but they wouldn`t listen. The locals tend to respect the sea but people who haven`t been brought up next to it don`t really understand. A tourist died swimming in the sea off Croyde the other day. The RNLI posted video of the condition in the sea that day - I certainly wouldn`t have wanted to swim there.

One wonders if they have received a warning, whether they ought to be prosecuted for endangering folk - it's the rescue teams who get pulled into managing these totally stupid acts that I feel sorry for, the risk that they are taking on, never mind the expense.....

saw this on the local news DTC and was horrified. during some storms i have seen waves crash over the island. the power in that water is not to be treated lightly. fools. they put so many other peoples lives at risk.
