Having witnessed the plight of some of these poor house owners etc, got me to wonder who long will it be before the EU and other overseas countries (who we have been so keen to helped out in the past), will now be pledging their money to the UK?
Tewkesbury was badly flooded in July
The UK is to receive about £120m from the EU to help repair damage caused by heavy floods in England last summer, the European Parliament has confirmed.
The money is coming from the EU Solidarity Fund, to cover costs like rescue services and temporary housing.
About 48,000 homes and 7,000 businesses were flooded in south-west England, the Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside. //
It seems that Gromit has the answer. We in South Wales thank our lucky stars for the EU, as it provided much needed money to regenerate communities devastated by the de-industrialization polices of the the 80s and 90's. Without this much-needed money, the urban decay would be much worse than it is today.
In the past when we were helping others less fortunate than ourselves we were casting our bread upon the waters. Gromit's mention of £120m EU money shows that what goes round comes round. In a good way.
// British officials rejected EU funding for food banks, which could have reached £22m for Britain, on the grounds that individual member states are best placed to take charge of such funding. //
