Good Luck

I believe that nowadays you just have to do a 6 minute shuttle run and have a good height/weight ration.

Just a general level of fitness, nothing fantastic.

Fire Brigade is a bit tougher and you have to maintain it throughout your career. The police it is just for probation period only (unless in specialized units) However, the Brigade give you duty time to attend the gym which almost every station has.

Standards for entry into the police seem to be redefined year on year. I'd suggest for a good clue look at the sort of coppers on the beat currently, all sizes, all shapes and varying degrees of moral fortitude!
That's assuming you can get one out of their car long enough!

If you aren't a BME I'd forget it and try something else.

Your best bet is to contact the HR department of the force you're looking to apply for. Some forces give out exact details of what their fitness test consists of. You wouldn't believe the difference in required fitness levels between forces. I've seen one force's test compile of a few sit/press ups, a 100m dash and a swim, whereas others are far more rigourous.

I believe the required levels of fitness for the fire brigade are far higher.
