Raspberry And Red Currant
I have just planted in a large pot a dry stick that the pound shop told me will turn into raspberrys (same with red currant except that seemed to have May bigger rootball so has gone straight into the ground)
Now I am hoping that that's it now. I can leave them and they will spread across the garden suppressing the weeds, producing copious amounts of sweet succulent fruits with no need for pruning, de slugging or anything else to take up my valuable time
Am I living in cloud cuckoo land?

slugs are not the problem with these two fruits. the birds may be. will they supress weeds? no chance as the weeds will just grow up amongst them. the redcurrant ill stay as one bush but with any luck the raspberries will spread everywhere and send up shoots (which fruit) all over the place.
it depends on how tidy a gardener you are how much you enjoy them?

Well thanks for your answers
I am quite pleased about the birds - I have a cherry tree and they get all those.
To be honest I'm not a great fruit lover but I like productive plants(fruit and herbs) so I thought I would fill in the gaps down the side of the path.
So far I've gone for the two bushes and at the end of last summer a patio pear tree. The cherry tree was established before I moved here (4 years ago)
Any other fruit or herb ideas would be welcome
