which type do you have?
Hi notafish,
There are several types of Begonia but I'm gonna assume it's the house plant variety you have (begonia rex)seeing as you've posted in Home & Garden.

In this case they are propagated easily from leaf cuttings.
This can be done at any time of the year when the plants are activly growing.
1)Select a young but full-grown leaf and cut it from the plant and cut the leaf into 1/2 squares with one of the main veins in the middle of each square.

2)Space the squares out on the surface of a seed tray containing a suitable compost (moistened) for cuttings and pin them down with thin wire pegs.

3) place the seed tray in a clear plastic bag which should be inflated and sealed.

4) Place in a warm position with good light but out of direct sunlight at approx 18-24.0c (64 75.0f) when the tiny plantlets appear you can then remove the bag and pot them on as they grow. Good Luck. Tbird+

Thank you very much, I've asked this question for my step mum. I don't know what type of Begonia it is. It has long droopy orangey red flowers with four pointed petals, she has it in a flower pot just outside her patio door.
Sounds like you have a pendular begonia which is a tuberous type used as an outdoor bedding and basket plant. These can be propagated by stem cuttings, basal cuttings and also by seed. You can also dry out the tubers and re-plant them again next year.
