These are currently £1.50 in Asda but in my local B&M bargains they are just 57 pence with a long date, how can they sell them for this price?

because the big stores are greedy
Asda and other big chains use the extra money to advertise on TV to tell you how cheap it is to shop with them.
Well, if the weight and packaging are all the same and in English I am not sure on this particular product.

Recent examples of this were explained when the idea of 'Social Supermarkets' was raised.

One example, last year Heinz did tins of beans labelled 'Hallowbeanz' October time, after this time large stores did not want a product that appeared to be out of date (even though it wasn't) hence these are sold off at a fraction of the cost.
Other examples included spelling errors on labels etc
