Problem With Hotmail Account

When I try to open my mail on I-pad I get a message to say that the username or password is incorrect. When I use the PC I get a message to say that someone other than myself has been trying to use the account and offers to give me my security code via a prompted Gmail account. When I use that prompt no security code is given. The gmail account resembles one of mine though asterisks are used in part of the prompt address. How can I proceed? Thanks.

As you have an account with Microsoft for your E/mails via Hotmail, I would think that you should be able to re-establish matters on the basis of your having forgotten your password.

It could be worth a try, and altering your password appears to be necessary if someone is trying to access your mail.

Thank you Alex. Couldn't go the reset route as Microsoft shut the account down. However via the Microsoft site I was instructed to give personal details and a short history of emails sent and received, along with the subject of each email. Took me two attempts but I am now up and running, with new password. Thank you again.
