Last week, Mrs Clarion came in with a large bag of goodies. When I asked what they were, she said Christmas presents for next year. Well, this year I suppose. Can you beat that? And last night she was writing christmas cards whilst watching BB upstairs. Is it me?

I haven't written the cards but we always buy them in the January sales, and I'd buy a present if something suitable presented itself.
I don't wish to be rude, but is she feeling ok?

"Writing Christmas cards". In January...? :-/
I do pick up bits and pieces throughout the whole year for Christmas, but even I draw the line at writing the cards in January.

What if a couple were to split up? What if someone has a baby? What if someone dies? I'm so tight I'd hate to waste a card!
Nope...but my aunt does that. Although I don't think she writes out the Christmas cards.

Don't you think writing them out in Jan makes them a little insincere?
I get the whole 'buying presents in the sales' thing, but writing out cards? That's just bizarre.
I can understand people buying prezzies throughout the year, and indeed wrap, new decs and cards in the sales, but I do not understand writing the cards in January; I too would question whether she is feeling well, and I really don't mean that in a flippant way. It strikes me as quite odd.
A friend of mine who has to count the pennies always does her Christmas shopping in the January sales. It would worry me that come Christmas it would be far to late to exchange presents if there was anything wrong with them!
No. Part of me wants to say that's ridiculous, but then, she getting it all out the way early and won't have that panic later in the year that many of us will .have

I'd probably ask her why she's doing it so early, she's probably got a perfectly logical and sensible reason (we all do when we're doing something baffling to others), but it is rather unusual taken at just face value.
i've got some cards and wrapping paper. not in the sales. just left over from last year.
Does Mrs Clarion like Christmas or does she find it stressful or depressing?
Last week I bought something for someone, for Christmas 2014. It was a good price (On QVC) and on three easy payments!
If I buy things early, I can never remember where I put them when I want them.
