Thanks for your kind reply the answer is yes, (erm! I thinkso )
It can be a bit daunting - but once set up it is really easy to use, and very efficient. Firstly, would suggest you either buy [at about £12] or ask the library to get you a copy of 'Mac Basics - Mac OS X Lion or Mavericks edition' Published by 'In Simple Steps' by www.pearson.com/uk- sort of better!! version of Mac for Dummies. The isbn is: 978-0-273-74636-2 . The Lion version - you need pages 59/60 to set you up, and the next few pages to enhance your knowledge. Hope it helps - also type into your search engine "Mac email set up" and see if there's a simple guide, you could download. Pob lwc/Good luck.
If you go to Mail/Preferences/Accounts It could be some small detail...you may have placed a comma for a dot in your Incoming Mail Server details. Check those details thoroughly.
Who is your email provider? It sounds as if you have the outgoing mail settings correct but not the incoming.
Doh! I meant Outgoing Mail Server.
