6 weeks ago my daughter had a mouse.she paid �85 for someone to come out he put the usual bait and things they do and 3 weeks ago got the all clear.but this morning she has seen mouse droppings .the mouse man went round to next door neighbour last time and told him to check and told my daughter then that if he has mice they will come back .she didnt get any response fron next door . now what does she do as she has done everything .the next door neighbour is elderly and doesnt seem to go out much. also my daughter has a little boy. it looks like she has to pay again and they will still come back if coming from next door

could your daughter not try a good old fashioned mouse trap? certainly a lot cheaper than the 'mouse man'! mices seem to like chocolate as well as cheese for the bait

You could contact the council and explain the situation they might be able to arrange somthing, your daughter should not have to pay for anything. Or you could try somthing like age concern or another charity.

yes she did the first night but she had to get rid of this as quick as possible and thought this the best way as it was worrying her. thanks for reply

Mice dont eat cheese, they like chocolate (malteasers are good) or crisps/ biscuits

she has set traps before going to work today think she has put in peanut butter .also her husband is going next door to night to ask man to check his house and if no response from him she is going to ring envirolmental health as she has done her bit to get rid of them.

to emmapayne27 my daughter rang council the first time on a monday and they couldnt come out till thursday and they do charge for mice but not rats thanks for reply

Mice can squish their skulls up, this is a really neat trick which means that they can get in the most improbably small gaps.

It's reckoned that if you've a gap big enough to fit a ball point pen in then a mouse can get through it.

She needs to check thouroughly for all small holes (remembering that they climb well) otherwise the little beggers will just continue to stroll in and out.

yes she has already got one booked but it is only 2 weeks old.she decided to have one when all this started as she is a cat lover

I had mice in my flat once. They were there for a few nights, then moved away. There was an old block of flats getting demolished nearby at the time, i think they must have disturbed a colony.

If they persist, the cat is the best answer.

Hi Wendilla, I had a mouse in the house a few years ago. I contacted the council and they didnt charge.

If its any help, our mouse came in through a tiny hole in the outside wall, and subsequently made his way into the cupboard under our sink. So your daughter could check for the same. I blocked the hole up with chewing gum! (maybe not the best thing!) But Touch wood, no mouse since!

hi minxie thanks for your reply yes my daughter had rang the conncil and they couldnt come for 4 days and there was a charge.I think they did do it free a few years ago but not now it is just free for rats.tonight she has borrowed her friends cat which is a good mouse catcher . and seems to have settled ok but will take it back if it starts to fret

I had mice a few years ago and our council also made a charge for mice but not rats. The charge was only �25 and the man came back weekly until he was sure they had gone. Far cheaper than what you have paid and not got rid of them.

tell your council you've got rats. when they catch the little bleeders and inform you they're mice just say they looked like rats to you, but then your not david attenborough so how should you know?

Thanks everyone for your replies my daughter had gone round and sealed everywhere the problem is she definately thinks they are coming from next door as when she had the mouse man out he went round next door to ask him to check his house but my daughter didnt get any response from him as to if he had any.we were wondering what could be done if she reports to envirmental dept would they have authority to go in and look his house. if she sees sign of any more over the weekend I think she is going to report to them this time
