Sensitivity

Over the years and particularly over the past few days i have noticed threads being "removed" due, clearly because of an "insensitive" post.

Human reactions vary to "sensitive" issues in many ways depending upon the emotional build up of the poster.

The poster may be, hypersensitive, of normal sensitivity or lacking in sensitivity a situation which is either developed through experiences in life or perhaps of genetic origin.

Perhaps one could consider these factors when reporting or criticising one's posts.

You're right squad. Different crowd. A bit like S&C. These are "debate" sections where we try and keep it as "warts and all" as possible. In other sections we might be stricter/less strict more sensitive/less sensitive. This is probably "multi-channel broadcasting" or something?

I am once more in danger of repeating all that has gone before, still, I am largely unshockable - whether that is my age, the life I have lived or whatever I am not sure.
I do occasionally gasp at what appears as it is often something I may say in private but not in public but as said sensitivity levels are personal.

I rarely report (Ads usually) and also often think that the odd insensitive remark be left as the removal causes yet more debate and questioning of its removal. A difficult call I understand.

Regarding the big thread that went off the rails - I was surprised so many were that bored they felt the need and the outcome is a bit sad.

Couldn't agree more with this. I once had a thread banned on mums net as I had said I didn't want to send my baby to nursery! I think some people just get so angry when someone has a different view to them and as long as the question was not written with the intention to offend it should remain. It's the people who get offended easily and write nasty replies who should be banned.

Ed, in my opinion this is an example of unfair removal of post - my answer was above EcclesCakes's and it was removed.

Insensitivity doesn't always mean offensive. I think you can be insensitive without the intention to be cruel or to offend. I'm sure we have all said something insensitive without meaning to. Also controversial views are often seem as offensive when actually they are merely someone's opinion
