Will try and keep this brief - car went in for service (£250) - 5 days later wouldn't start - breakdown service diagnosed fuel problem - local garage replaced glow plugs (£195) still had exactly the same problem - local garage then diagnosed (?)fuel pump problem and referred me to main dealer. They found two completely perished pipes and one pipe not clipped on after the fuel filter changed during original service ( their a/c £190).
As the problem was not rectified when the glow plugs were replaced, perhaps these were unnecessarily replaced, if so, how can I prove it? Surely it's too much of a coincidence that the glow plugs , even though they didn't cause the problem were in need of changing only five days after the vehicle had been serviced (with the instructions to check everything over prior to the expected bad weather) Am going to the garage tomorrow armed with receipts and would appreciate any tips for getting garage to accept liability as had the fuel pipe not been left off at original service I'd have had no bother. thank you

I think glow plugs either work or they don't, unlike spark plugs which are known to wear out and so are replaced as a matter of routine.
I've had two diesels, the first one did over 150,000 miles without the glow plugs being replaced and the current one is on 112,000 on the original glow plugs.
I think it is quite feasible that you could have a failure straight after a service, although I would expect only one to be faulty and cause starting difficulties but not starting failure.
I'm guessing but maybe a main dealer's diagnostic machine would have diagnosed a potential problem where your local garage just carried out the oil/filter etc changes specified for the service.

Your indication of Glow Plug Probs, car difficult to start first thing in the Morning, you turn the time & time again for the car to start, state that to the garage that changed the Glows unessary, Filter will be the main cause in a derv unless there is an air lock in the system, if you can not get any joy or refund, tell them you will be taking if futher, make sure you have the persons name, position, the date / time, make sure you keep hold of the receipt.
