I need to decorate my living room, just painting the walls. wife at Christmas out cards onto the walls with Blutac. Now small circular marks left. Think this my be oil or grease from said Blutac. What is the best way to cover this before painting walls so it does not show through. thank you Dave, Plymouth.

Ballpoint pen ink will show through emulsion paint. Use a thin coat of gloss paint to cover the marks and then a couple of coats of emulsion. So this would probably work for blu tack marks.
As Sycamore says use gloss to seal it first but make sure it is an oil based one. I often do this to seal water stains and the like but I usually put half oil based gloss and half oil based undercoat and mix well and apply this. This seals the marks and with the added undercoat makes the emulsion easier to apply afterwards.
The simple answer is to use stain block over the marks. The one in an aerosol can dries in 10mins.
