Hi I want to record a bit of streaming music from a website, but need some help please as i am obviously doing something wrong. I have a program called My MP3, but when I try to record the streaming audio all I get is the the background sound from my living room, which is being picked up by my Laptop microphone. What I want to do is record what I am hearing through my headphones, but I don't know how to do this.I am using Windows 7 if this is of any help.

And advice would be most appreciated.

Try audacity.

Depending on your computer you may be able to record it directly, or you may need to connect your headphones to you mic/line in socket. You will need to turn off playback when recording if using the second method.

To export to mp3 you will also need the lame encoder - an add on for audacity
Yes Audacity. Freeware.
Then you download something called LAME to enable mp3 conversion and almost off you go.
In Audacity you will need to enable on the top bar, record "What you hear" or you will not get anything!

You may also need to go to the soundcard driver if "What you hear" does not come up and in properties, enable hidden functions.

All this is a once off though. Once installed it is just a question of hitting the record button then saving to mp3 somewhere.
You'll have an option to change your input device. Sounds like it's currently set to 'microphone' as default. Change it to 'line in' or 'stereo mix'.
What you heare also known as stero mix but you stiil may have to right click youir sound card in properties to show hidden features.
