What does Incitatus mean? I have seen this word/name appear on the Answerbank on many occasions.
I'd guess at "a person in his forties who still lives with his mum and doesn't get out much", but I'm genuinely only guessing.
And now you're being a bit mean. We're all entitled to hide behind the anonymity of our answerbank 'handles'. Mind you, perhaps incitatus could put up a few questions for others to answer????
Its a name. Its the name of the Emperor Caligula's pet horse. And wrong on all counts. Also I have asked questions in the past and received answers.
Im not entirely sure what Ive done to upset people here.....I thought the point was to answer if you knew it.
You're absolutely right - and the joy of this site is that we can all express our opinions freely, and debate with each other, as well as sharing knowledge. Personal jibes are not really within the spirit of the enterprise, and thankfully occur infrequently.
yes, it was the Noble Senator Incitatus. And it did a brief stint as consul. See Tacitus for details. Annals rather than Histories I think, but my memory isnt what it was.
