Heel Hell

My stilleto heels are always wearing out so quickly! I seem to be walking on the metal pins that are inside the heel more often than the heel itself. I heard from someone that shoemakes can put a sort of protective film over the heel so that wear and tear from walking will make it less likely to damage.

Has anyone else had this and if so, about how much is it please? Are there any other solutions to this problem?

Does this not drive you mad ive stopped buying them now those winkle pickers with the thin heel thingy. I make sure i buy thicker heels as they would be worn away within 2 weeks its a nightmare and i love me winkle pickers so if there is a solution id like to know too

I have some stilleto boots and after a few weeks I was walking on the metal pins inside the heel! I took them to a shoe mending place (can't remember what they're called! you know, those ones that do things like key cutting) and they re-made the bottom of the heel. The put a metal cap on the bottom of it instead of the plastic bit that usually comes on it so now they make very clicky sounds but has not worn away! I can't remember how much it cost exactly but it wasn't too expensive... about �6 or �7 I think. It definitely saved my boots!

50% of your body weight lands on the heel as it impacts with a surface, if you have a stilleto heel it is likely made out of a polyurythene (can't spell today) imagine the impact of a small tip like that on concrete, after just a few yards it is starting to wear. Most people fail to grasp that these tips need replacing as soon as there is any sign of wear, second tips, unless they are steel, will wear slightly longer as the shoe or boot has had time to hopefully mould to the individual walk pattern and so heavy wear spots are already defined and the new tips can usually sustain a greater walking impact even on concrete. Steel tips, expecially on boots, are the better option to extend the life and look of the boot.

steel tips are good, but rubber tips are the way forward people. they are better to look at, and dont make that cringy metal-scraping-ground noise we are all too familiarized with. ive only ever found one or two cobblers who do it, and its a wee bit more expensive, but it lasts, and is really worth it. apparently its all the rage in spain, yet somehow most of our cobblers havent got the facilities to use rubber. ps, heel hell? pure genious Alison_s
