I am assuming that I know the answer to this already but thought it worth an ask. I need to see a consultant and an struggling to get a referral to see one via NHS. If I could afford it I would gladly go private and pay for my treatment in full but it's not a possibility.
The referral process is taking far too long in the NHS so wonder if I pay for a private consultation and they decide my treatment would that consultation be transferable to the NHS to speed up the process.
I'm desperate to get sorted out and the whole process is just dragging on and on and I can't wait much longer.
Thanks in advance

I want to jump the Queue to get to consultant after that is wait the NHS waiting times gladly as I know it wouldn't be too bad. I find it infuriating that the same consultant I'm being refused to be referred to I can pay to see over the road.

The doctor I'm seeing at the hospital is telling me the consultant will not see me let alone treat me for a Hiatus Hernia I have been diagnosed with by Endoscopy. I appreciate that surgery may not be the best course of treatment but surely the surgeon should decide this. My Gastro is convinced I have IBS but can only attribute around three if my symptoms to it whereas can attribute ALL if my symptoms to my hernia. The doc who did my endoscopy suggested surgery as the best treatment also.
I do not want surgery that is unneeded but I so want to be treated. Currently I am in no medication, I as taken off of 120mg Omeprazole and Rinitidine to see 'how things pan out'. I've recently been to A &E due to extreme chest pain which is a regular thing now. And I have the most horrendous reflux every day, whether I eat it not.
I don't know what else I can do.

The diagnosis would be usable but to see the same surgeon privately then your GP would still have to refer you to them on NHS. Surgeon I used to wofk for did this and would give me a 'heads up' to book an appt and that the chap would be off to GP quick smart to get a proprer GP referral; he was not allowed to refer a private patient to himself.
Personally I'd cut out the middle man and ask GP to refer me directly to who I wanted to see for a second opinion. The referral does not havr to come from your gastro doc.

I agree with china. When OH needed to see an ENT surgeon, our GP saw him, wrote a referral straight away to the preferred private surgeon. The surgeon then wrote a report and we had the choice of waiting for surgery on the NHS (10 months waiting list) or paying to go private (3 weeks). We went for the latter, also assured us that the surgeon we saw in the first place would actually be undertaking the surgery. OH's GP also referred him to Belgium for his MRI scan, because there was a long wait at the local NHS hospital. OH brought the Xrays back with him to show the surgeon.
I had same situation years ago, paid for consultation , agreed needed surgery, best option by the way, spoke to consultants secretary and advised could have op on nhs, but you have to wait as usual, waited a year for op then the nhs paid for op in private hospital, result !!, main thing is it shortened waiting time to see consultant,
