high revs

hi i have p reg 96 model escort idles fine drives fine but when i put my foot down to pick up speed the car picks up pace fine but the revs go up like hell causing the engine to sound as if ur thrashing it even thou im only going around 30mph whats my prolem can you help me plzzzzzz

Hi, sound like the clutch, same happened to me about a year ago, a mate told to try to pull away a little bit fast and if it just revs then the the clutch is gone

jimmys right you have a slipping clutch, not too big a job to renew on your car.
