Classical Music Cd's
Just a general question the the length of a piece of music by a classical composer.
I see a number of multi CDs for sale where they say '100 best pieces by Bach' ( as an example).
So on 5CDs they fit 100 tracks. Given that 1cd will play for a maximum of 80 minutes so the maximum or five will be 400 minutes. 100 tracks in 400 minutes gives an average of 4 minutes a track.
Is this the full track or are they shortening them simply to fit them on? My limited knowledge is that the pieces generally run a lot longer than 4 minutes. Or am I wrong

A five minute recorder solo is about 75% of the size of five minutes of full orchestra). The record you mention is made up of short bits and many of the recordings are quite old. Here's a review which tells you the lengths of the tracks. http:// www.all music.c om/albu m/100-b est-bac h-mw000 1860573
