But i have never actually been ashamed of the Clarets. I am long enough in the tooth to realise that a team doesn't set out to play badly, so i tend to be a little more philosophical about p***poor performances. Though i must admit to getting very, very close to being ashamed in Jan 74, the day non league Wimbledon beat us 1-0 in the FA Cup. At Turf Moor!! So becoming the first non league team in the 20th century to beat a top team away from home. I was serving in N Ireland at the time and had been out on patrol, so i didn't know the result until i went to the canteen for my tea. And 300 squaddies gleefully broke into the "Wombles" song. I was much too hungry to run and hide and so sat there and endured it. Even thinking about it now brings me out in a cold sweat.
