Due to a very long NHS waiting list combined with a husband receiving treatment for lung cancer which involves many hospital visits, I have been wondering about private treatment for a cholesteatoma. Does anyone have a rough idea of cost? I would be using a local BMI hospital ironically with the same surgeon as would see at the NHS hospital.
Five years ago the Daily Wail was quoting around £10k http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1177250/Me-operation-Surgeons-lasered-ear-stop-going-deaf-17.html
many private setups have online price lists or you could just ask. we have found that bupa for instance are very happy to be clear about their pricing.
Thank you Woolfgang - I have already contacted our local BMI but they simply want to put me through to the surgeon's PA and of course this is one and the same as I am on the waiting list to see. I was just hoping to get some idea without contacting him direct.
Thank you for your helpful responses - I have decided to stay with the NHS mainly because I have had treatment and monitoring for many years on my left ear and now with a problem on the right ear and the need for continuing care, I think it will be easier to stay with the NHS albeit with a bit of a wait initially. Many thanks.
