Just watched Tony Blackburn being interviewed by Piers Morgan and thought I'd check a couple of details on Wikipedia. Seems strange that at the top of the Wiki page under 'Spouse' it just mentions his first wife, Tessa Wyatt, who he was married to for 3 years. No mention of Debbie, his present wife of 21 years until you scroll down to 'Personal life'.
I agree - he came over very well. I used to live in Bournemouth and remember passing him in the town centre - I must have been about 15 or so. It was very exciting (I led a sheltered life!)
I think he's wonderful - a man who has lived and thrived in a profession where being up yourself was almost required by law, and has never taken himself too seriously, or failed to make jokes at his own expense, while quietly getting on with being a wonderful and admired broadcaster.
John Peel once said that Tony Blackburn had discoverd the secret of eternal youth. He said 'When we both started at Radio One, we were the same age - now he's five years younger than me!'
I was listening to Radio Two the other day and the DJ said Tony Blackburn was the only person he knew that could come into the studio and say' Hey, look how straight my banana is' and mean a banana fruit, and keep a straight face.
