Hello I keep this old Clio for my three sons It is ten years old There are 130,000miles on the clock and its still going well and the engine seems OK The question is--- should I keep it on the road because it is very useful to them or should I scrap its because the MOT is coming up and later on the insurance the clutch was replaced about a year ago.maybe somebody out there has an old clio that has done many more thousands of miles and could advise me ---thank you in advance

Clios tend to be fairly solid as regards rust even when they are older and mechanically they are not difficult to work on. You've laid out a bit of money on the new clutch so keep it running for a few more years - if you keep it on good oil and filters there's no reason why it won't keep running well. Running an old car has the benefit of allowing you to bin it if you hit major problems without worrying about the financial loss. Don't be under the illusion that a newer vehicle will be trouble free - it's the luck of the draw !

You did well to get it to 130k in my opinion! If the engine is still ok tho, I'd say keep it. Alot of my friends have had clio's and the Head gaskets blew on all of them!


So if it's still working keep it! I read somewhere that petrol engines are generally designed to cover 150-180k - check the major bits for MOT fails, like the brake pipes and sills if it looks ok keep it running.

if ur gonna keep it make sure ur timing belt n tensioner has been done in the last 4 years or 72k and u shud b ok great wee cars


It will cost a lot more to get another car than to pay for repairs to pass the MOT unless it's something serious, give it a try!

Thank you for all your help.its seems that the consensus of opinion is to keep it and this is what I intend to do.
If it runs and is capable of passing the MOT without costing 100's why scrap it? New cars are far from trouble free and are not actually that reliable, not the first 54 or 05 reg I've seen on the hard shoulder or on the back of a breakdown truck!
