ymg...sometimes you use phrases that leave me puzzled ! Is a "chimney" Pub what I might call a back-street Pub, or perhaps one on a housing estate ...ie just an ordinary Pub ?
In Britain today, only about 28% of adults still smoke. That figure would, of course fluctuate, between different parts of the country and in different social classes, but its clear that the vast majority of people now do not smoke. I now know very few people who smoke but from my experience, even most smokers agree that anti-smoking legislation has been a good thing on the whole.
But isn't it sad that in 2014 we still have some people that are so uneducated that they think its OK to trap their kids in smoke-filled cars ?
DrFilth...as a CAMRA Member, I am worried by the growing trend in Pub closures, but its caused be many different reasons. Perhaps we are just changing our social habits and do other things with our spare time, instead of going to the Pub ?
I hate to mention Wetherspoons again (!) but they seem to be thriving, where other Pubs are closing. You keep hearing that the smoking in public places laws are closing Pubs, but Wetherspoons are subject to exactly the same laws as everybody else. Perhaps other Pubs should look at what Wetherspoons are doing right, and try to emulate it ?
