Can only comment about the only time I've seen it done. In Oregon back in 2010, they put a wooden bumper around the sleds to protect them (bit like the bottom of a dodgem car) then push them into the back of trucks and drive them back up a road to the top of the run.

Hey thanks angie, ...it was just one of those odd questions that came up while we were watching the bobsleds, they don't look light and couldn't be manhandled too easily ....a logistical nightmare, I'd think.
