Had an appointment today at my doc's, at 10.50 this morning, with a pain in the hip, that I've had for a while now.
Well I was in and out before 10.50 ...... and was given a letter, referring me to the x-ray department - no need for an appointment, just turn up and wait.
A quick visit to the x-ray department at the local hospital and I was out by 11.25 ...... not bad eh ??
Now I know this is prob not the norm, but it was nice, as I was expecting to be waiting for ages :)

I think it is the norm. You can walk in without an appointment and get an x-ray really quickly these days. The problem is waiting 7 days for the result to be analysed.
Pleased for you Gizmonster - my experiences have never been that good
I haven't been to the doctors for about two years now but when I do I always turn up at least 30 mins before- you never know who has cancelled
