Story Of My Vacuum Cleaner......
16 Answers
I've been struggling with it for months. It's too heavy for me on the stairs. Mic used to balance it for me but those days are gone. So I decided to buy a light weight one and get rid of the awkward, heavy, cumbersome one once and for all. When I mentioned to one of Mic's carers that it was going to the tip she asked me to hold on to it as she new someone who had little money and her vac gave up the ghost last week. Okay I said but they must collect it before Sunday or it's the tip. They came this afternoon. I gave them the cleaner and did not get even a thankyou, just have you any spare dust bags. I despair of some people.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ."Thank you," and other small polite sayings, seem to be dying out now. Manners have gone out of the window. Those people who do say "Thank you," "Please", and so on are becoming rarer. As regards you heavy vacuum cleaner, Jeza, what about keeping one upstairs and another one downstairs? That would save you the effort of humping one up and down the stairs.
Yep...I know Jeza...I gave a nearly new bike to someone...albeit through another friend...and would have appreciated a little thank you card as I know how badly needed the bike was....but hey ho.
Even my grandchildren are not as good at thank yous as I would like them to be but they'll regret it when I leave the lot to the birds....☻

I think what really bothered me knowabit, was that we had just had a discussion about giving things away and folk then selling them! She had even said that when she was finished with the clothes she would pass them onto someone else for free.
Most of the stuff had only been worn a couple of times. I wouldn't have cared if she had given it to charity or someone else, but for her to make money on it bothers me slightly.

A lot of changes and not for the good in today's society makes me mad, common courtesy to say please and thank you but it seems children aren't being taught it now. Perhaps it's down to the gimme gimme society and expectations of people who think things are their "right" that's made it this way. What a sad thing to have happened because just reading this thread shows how many people do care that it has changed from what it used to be.
2_sp - next time you can sell them yourself on eBay!
Many years ago I won a washing machine in a competition, but I didn't need it so I sold it. When the person came to collect it, she said "where's the washing powder that was also part of the prize?". I was eally taken aback. Sounds a bit like your dust bag story, jeza!
We have 4 floors in our house - I have a light vac for upstairs, very easy to carry. The one I have also comes to bits so you can use it as a hand vac for the stairs - extremely useful.
