Help..lost Photos In Windows Live Photo Gallery

I can`t believe this,I had some docs which I had saved in Windows Live Photo Gallery,only put them last night..this morning opened this up and they were there(want to put on a USB drive),I clicked on something ,...they have disappeared...help,help...I took ages to find them and now they have gone!!!!

Sorry not got back to you sooner.
The docs were what I had saved from the Family Search website.they went straight to Windows Gallery.I then wanted to make a folder for them ,then put on my USB pen drive...like to back up info.Well,made a New Folder,came to put the docs in it...gone...vanished!!!!
Looked everywhere...cannot be found.!!
So have had to do it all over again..hours of work...that is why I did not reply before.
How can this happen ,need to know how it occurs as it did this once before,lost some fotos..never found!!!

Can anyone advise me as to what MIGHT have happened...please
