remember the bbc fly on the wall documentary THE FAMILY. does anyone know who composed and performed the theme tune

I remember the guy who did the yodelling was called Dave Brooks but that`s about it-sorry

sorry can't remember the tune but will never forget the show.

The Wilkinsons of Reading aka "The Family" was compelling viewing, our family tuned in every week without fail.

They made a "where are they now" follow up some years ago and I think its about they checked them out again.

They will probably find out that Tom succumbed to bird flu ages ago and theres been a government cover up!!!!

Further to the answer on who composed and performed the Family theme tune.The single was released on EMI in 1974 under the name Mr.Brooks.It is available on the cd Gather in the Mushrooms and Magpie 20 junkshop pop ads and themes.Dave Brooks went on to write more themes for the BBC including Vox Pop(A BBC single was released in 1983)Romers Egypt and the last series of 40 minutes amongst others.He also toured as an opening act for many bands in the early 70's and 80's.How do I know,well I am the Dave Brooks in question.Thanks for the interest,hope this is of use!

Well how about that. After weeks of looking on the internet I get an answer from the man himself. I can't remember the series 1st time round but I saw a programme on ch 4 (i think) a few months back - top documentaries of all time, the Family was featured and theme tune got me straight away (the pipes and the folky sound) very unusual for a theme tune I think. Anyway, thanks for the tip on the CD I shall be buying that straight away. I think I know the one you mean (it also has Vashti bunyan on it aswell). Its a pity I can't get it autographed from you. Anyway, Thanks very much for taking the time to write.
