Smoothie Recipe Cup Size

Hi all.
Forgive me if this question has an obvious answer, but I have just purchased smoothie blender and recipe book. Almost every recipe requires 'half a cup of' or quarter of a cup of'.
Can anyone tell me the cup size please? A fine china cup that fits on a saucer that we use when my mother in law comes round, or the half litre 'mug' I have at work for my first morning brew.

Any cook shop and some supermarkets should be able to provide you with a set of cup measures.

In a pinch, a double handful equals about a cup (here in the U.S.) while a single handful (at least mine) equals close to half a cup. I realize this becomes problematic when measuring honey or fruit jusice, but for dry measures, it works well for me...
