Are The Tories Preparing To Lose The Election?
Apparently, the Chancellor George Osborne is urging Boris Johnson to get elected to parliament before the election in 2015. Johnson is London Mayor until 2016. Osborne wants Boris onboard, so that when they lose the general election, Boris is tarnished as much as Dave and Gideon. Even Boris isn't stupid enough to fall for that, but it does have the air of them preparing to fail, don't you think?
// They want to make sure that if the Tories lose, Boris gets as much flak as they do and can't stand as leader as a 'break with the failed Cameron-Osborne regime'," the source was reported as saying. //

I do remember dealing with the old LCC under Red Ken's cronyism and seeing his pals enjoying Carribbean junkets at taxpayers expense. So for Londoners sake I hope Boris doesn't go into parliament.
I don't think the country is ready for another Labour spending spree and inflation.

As political commentators are wont to say when extrapolating the first few election results to the entire House, "and this is just a bit of fun"...
2014 Scotland overwhelmingly votes Yes in September. "New England" refuses to allow them to use sterling as their currency, so they mint their own, starting with one Scottish pound = one pound Sterling.
2015 The Tories win a landslide victor in "New England" because there are no Scottish Labour voters to stop them. They immediately continue their on-going agenda of giving to the rich in London and the Home Counties, to the detriment of the working classes in the North.
2016 Scotland's independence programme is finally finished. A full member of the UN and NATO, they have established embassies all around the world, Scots enjoy international travel freely, the US relaxes the Visa Waiver programme for Scots nationals.
2017 Scotland holds a referendum on whether they should apply to join the EU. It is overwhelmingly rejected.
2018 Growing unrest in the North of England coupled with growing prosperity over the border in Scotland. Salmond offers huge incentives to foreign companies to move their operations to Scotland, and they arrive in droves.
2019 Riots and further civil unrest in the North of England. More and more people from Northumberland and Cumbria find work in Scotland, not being able to find it nearer home, and more and more move their families to Scotland.
2020 Scotland holds a referendum on becoming a full republic, thereby removing the English monarch as head of state. It is overwhelmingly approved.
2021 The Northern English counties express their desire to become part of Scotland.

The inconvenient truth is that Osborne has maxed out the country's credit card to the hilt...
// George Osborne's claims to be prudent with the nation's finances have been brutally undermined by the fact he has added more to Britain's £1.2 trillion debt pile in his three years as Chancellor than Labour did in thirteen. //

jeffa,
can see that happening, or perhaps not. Alex Salmond says that he wants to keep the Monarchy, so isn't going to ditch them. As to companies hot footing it to Scotland, you have to have major infrastructure in place, homes, offices, for these businesses people, so that means money to splash out on building them. Where do you get that money, from the Scottish taxpayer, are there sufficient funds to pay for all the things that Salmond wants. Are the English, Welsh, Irish folk living in Scotland, those who get a vote, going to want to see the Kingdom break up, maybe not
The Scots down south, if there is a separate currency, a border will that mean they have dual nationality, and keep changing their money when they go home to visit, holiday. All of Salmonds wishes are based on what Scotland can afford, do they have enough by way of business, aside from the oil to keep them viable, afloat, i wonder. Castles in the air come to mind when i listen to him.

"Alex Salmond says that he wants to keep the Monarchy"
If independence comes, I fully predict that Salmond will suffer the same fate as Churchill did in July 1945, so what he wants will be of no importance.
"Are the English, Welsh, Irish folk living in Scotland, those who get a vote, going to want to see the Kingdom break up"
Those people haven't suddenly arrived in Scotland; they voted in an SNP majority at the last election.
"The Scots down south, if there is a separate currency, a border will that mean they have dual nationality"
???? Currency and border have nothing to do with dual nationality! Did you just make that up?

I normally disagree with everything Benedict Brogan in the Telegraph writes, but he seems to have reached the same conclusion as I.
