Adverts Causing Nuisance & Distress

Does anyone know... If you are being pestered by an out of date and unwanted ad whenever you log on to the internet - what are your rights?

My Internet provider say their hands are tied even if their customers are harassed - not their ad and they don't get paid anything for the ad to latch on to their log on box.

It's like a banner advert - its really in your face but you can't close it without it opening again or you end up by accident on their site. It opens every time you log on.

It has been on since early Nov - offer was over then. When you see an ad once and dont want to know, you should have the option to opt out completely or close it because you have seen it. I think this is reasonable.

If it was on a site - you dont have to visit the site but this is cropping up every time you log on (so you are stuck with it whether you like it or not) and it is the same out of date ad all the time.

I am trying to get some advice on it and complain direct but I'm not getting anywhere quickly!.

Any ideas would be appreciated? (

If you use firefox or chrome you could use an 'adblocker' to stop the unwanted ad appearing - although that would also mean that you didn't see the very nice advertising that supports AnswerBank ...

That's an idea Sunny-dave and I may have removed Chrome when I uploaded security stuff but I can reinstall and that may work. Thanks - that's helpful.

I will leave it there for now until I get a response from the advertiser as it is proof (that will be interesting) but yes this might be my only option. Shucks! Recently the ad is getting to me more but I think most people would get very fed up.

Prior to this ad, I only ever got a message on there and it would be things like upgrades happening - that sort of thing so useful but this isn't good.

I expect there is some Ad standard that covers this problem too, I think -why should anyone have to go to lengths to avoid nuisance? - shouldn't have this sort of nuisance in the first place. (I hate ruthless companies)

Methyl.. thanks...yes it would have been better on the Tech or Ad section!
glad I'm not the only one with this problem.( - if you fix it the advertiser will get in another way and make sure you can't fix it - I think that is what has happened)

Regarding the lower half of your post--- did all that some time ago, and it didn't do the trick. So far it appears there is no way to remove this because the advertiser is what I think is termed "sticking" the ad with no way of removing them. I will try Chrome & your other suggestion but not yet as need to leave it there to allow advertiser to see it and remove (if that makes sense). Somehow I dont think they will.
I will be back with more info asap as waiting for further feedback.
(what you suggest makes sense but this is set up so you can't get them off seemingly where normally you can).

Coke, please answer Methyl's questions as the advertiser will not and cannot remove it. Its most likely to be cached on your computer.

Some or all of the following will help:
-run something like Malwarebytes
- look at all your browser settings regarding popups, sites to restrict etc
- also look at your browser settings- maybe the default page it is set to open on is for the ad
- look at which add-ons you have
