For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Sounds to me like you are burning as data files which will not be recognised by a dvd player.a rar file is like a zip file ie is a way of compressing data to make the file size smaller.you need to download winrar which will then allow you to 'unrar' or unpack the files to give you a video file.this can then be burnt to a dvd allowing you to watch.
One thing though,Lost is infamous as when burnt to dvd the audio goes out of sync with the video.i recommend just watching on your pc.

My old DVD player couldn't play any other video formats such as MPEG, AVI and WMV but now a lot of them do. These can be burned to an ordinary CD.
