Insufficient Bandwidth

Trying out my new iPad with BBC iPlayer I was happily watching live programmes but when I tried to view a programme from last week I was told "You have insufficient bandwidth to view this programme."

I know what bandwidth is, but how can there be a lack of it here when the whole point of iPlayer is that you should be able to view any programme?

its not the iplay, its your ISP. Are you limited on bandwidth or were there other users doing other things online at the same time or where you on cloud computing at a starbuckes recetera (free wifi?)

Thanks, woofgang. I don't know whether my ISP limits my bandwidth. How do I find out? And why can I watch live programmes with no less data content in them? I was working with my own wi-fi at home and no-one else was using it.
You could try downloading the video for later viewing if the BBC lets you!.

There is some good reading on the BBC site offering a mobile download APP for the iPad:

At the bottom of iPlayer pages there is an option to watch at a 'lower bandwidth' setting.
If you run the test here it will tell you what your download speed is and then open up a table showing which BBC services it's good enough for:

Thanks to all of you. Buenchico, the check you suggested resulted in a very adequate count, and since my PC will receive such programmes from BBC iPlayer without a problem it would seem that the loss of bandwidth is occuring between my router and my iPad. Is that a fair assumption?

I can't think of any other reason - although it's hard to think of why it's happening except:
(a) your iPad is too far from the router ;
(b) there's a physical obstruction (such as a thick wall) between the iPad and the router ; or
(c) there's interference on the channel being used by your router.

You might wish to try a different channel, to see if (c) is the problem, which means going into your router's settings. If you don't know how to do that, we'll need to know the make of your router.
had this same problem and after trying different router settings without any fix i reset all setting on the ipad (this option does not erase any data/files/apps)and all works fine now
