Hi all you lovely techie people. I'm Queen of the Luddites and know diddly squat about computers etc.
What's the difference between 8 and 8.1?
I currently have XP and know that's heading towards the grave in the next few weeks so I have no choice but to change. Why does EVERYONE hate 8 and 8.1 soooo much. Why is it so vastly different and unliked by everyone?
Bernie, sorry to hijack your thread. xx

It's hated because they tried to make an app based operating systems when there was very little hardware around that could handle it properly. It's not intuitive, it doesn't really follow on from previous Windows incarnations BUT and its a big but...8.1 is BETTER than 8.0 because it at least lets you run of a desktop
bernie - you won't notice much difference going from 8 to 8.1 and there's going to be an update to that in April. I would suggest doing the update (via the Store not through some potentially dodgy mechanism such as a link in an email) and you'll be ok.
janbee - you've been listening to the wrong people.

What I want is an upgrade to Windows 7 to stop the ^%£"%$£&$%^&*$%^* screen going blank every time the mouse drifts down and hovers over the 'show desktop' area. It's not pressed, it should not activate. And another upgrade to stop, when I simply move a window to a corner, the window deciding to maximise over everything else I'm trying to look at, presumably for a laugh.
