driving tests

ive failed 4 times got another one in may i think i may end up with a record soon enough! anybody else suffering?

Oh my god!  Morello that is SO ridiculous.  These days there are so many ways to fail.  It does not necessarily mean you are a dangerous driver.  You only have to make a few little mistakes, the kind of mistakes people who have been driving a while make EVERY DAY without even thinking about!  I think that except for a very small minority learner drivers are safer than most drivers on the road today.  Of course once they pass and can go out on their own they learn bad habits pretty quick...

I took 2 tests when I was 17 (old style shorter test), failed them both, neither for dangerous driving i might add!  Then gave it a rest although I continued to practice fairly regularly.  At 22 I had a new series of lessons, and then failed test again, again for minor faults.  Then I booked a test but procrastinated on lessons and only had 1 before my test! THe instructor was sure I would fail and I had never driven in the test area before ... but amazingly I passed with only 1 minor fault!! YAY!  I think because I was so aware I didn't know the roads at all I was ultra careful, plus by then I had had a LOT of experience and I think I finally had the confidence, so I was FINALLY ready to be a driver.

Just keep at it dunlop.  I don't have any specific advice: we are all different! It'll happen eventually.  Maybe if you get really desperate you could try and pass in an automatic?  Good luck.

morg_monster, the take on board what you say, but the last part of your answer says it all! If you can't 'manage' the gears, there's always automatic... It's the same with those green P-plates - P for Pass? - P for Pathetic! If you've passed your test and reckon you can drive, then just do it. Don't hide behind 'P-plates'. Pah.

morello  yes there are plenty of bad drivers about and i bet half of em passed first time!!!!!  good driving comes from the attitude you have to other road users not how many times you take a test.  My husband is a driving instructor and has just had someone fail for the sixth time yet they are a way safer driver than some who have already passed.

good luck dunlop keep trying you'll get there in the end. :-)

Keep your chin up and keep driving, if you failed and have to re-test you will surely be a better driver in the end!!!

Don't listen to anyones bad comments, just keep an eye on the car behind the one in front and all sill work out for the best in the end!

I am the said driving instructor hubby of caz218 and she is absolutly correct. Does any one really think that because someone fails multple tests they are bad drivers? I think not. Many people go on to be good drivers who have failed many times, the test today is a far cry from my L test some 25 years ago and can be failes for the daftest of reasons e.g. 35 in a 30 (anyone here never done that cast the 1st stone please)

Dunlop, keep going, take the advice of your instructor and ignore the rest.

Morello I actually agree with you about P plates.  But where they are compulsory, they do reduce accidents among newly qualified drivers significantly. I guess that can't be a bad thing.

I fail today for the fourth time... i feel like i will never get through but i am a good driver...my nerves are bad.. next test im on the beta blockers...something has to work... your not the only one who keeps failing at the last hurdle... im just dreading my three kids coming home from school to tell em...FAILED AGAIN..no doubt i'll get tears...

I failed my test for the second time today, it's really deprssing and annoying; especially when you know you can drive.  On both my tests i have come away with very few minor faults but ive gone and done something incredibly stupid and failed. Last time i failed for speeding- i just didn't realise i was going over the limit, then today i failed for hitting the kirb on a manouvre-someting i haven't done for ages so really annoying!
