I don't see why you shouldn't be able to buy a piece of suitable wood, cut it to length, treat it and nail it to the uprights if that is all that needs replacing.

I did mine last year.
I think they're roughly the same size as roofing slats.
As already said, make sure they're well treated and they'll last another few more years :)
