Electrics Question
5 Answers
I have a chicken brooder lamp and shade which I want to use over a reptile enclosure. The specs on the lamp say 230V - 50/60Hz -250W max -then under EU is stamped IPX4. The cable looks quite heavy duty and has a two round pin plug at the end - would it be safe to use if I can find an adapter that goes from two pin (round) to three pin (square) - I want to use it in a spare room in the house. Many thanks

I was going on to say that that you'd need to be careful about the actual power of the bulb in the lamp as a 250W bulb draws around 1 Amp and shaver adapters are usually fused for that current. e.g.:

Personally I'd just buy a shaver adapter that has access to the fuse and put a 3 Amp one instead of the one that comes with it, but it might be better (and far more likely to satisfy the regulation-bound electricians around here) if you were to remove the existing plug and replace it with a standard UK one (but fused at 3A, not 13A)
