has anyone any views on windows8 compared to windows 7.I am thinking of getting a new computer,all of the new ones in pc world have windows 8 but i can get a new one from another supplier with windows 7.Any advice much appreciated

Admittedly there are also quite a few posts from people who seem happy with Windows 8 but there are very few that go as far as to suggest that it's actually in any way significantly better.
Look for a Windows 7 PC, such as one of these

(I can personally recommend that dealer) and avoid having anything to do with the dreaded PC World!

I am one of those that is happy with W8, and one thing that you might want to consider is that new versions of Windows are likely to be coming every year. Keeping up to date with the latest version of the operating system means that just about all your 3rd party software carries through from one version to the next without a problem, whereas if you skip a version (e.g. from 7 to 8.1) then a lot won't so you'll have to reinstall them. There is a possibility that Microsoft are going to provide an special utility for upgrading from 7 to the new update next month but that is likely to be a one-off.
