My hairdresser advised me today to take supplements, plus special lotion and shampoo against hair loss. I must say they weren't to be bought at the salon but at a chemist's (so not a commercial thing). This treatment lasts 3 months and costs approx. 70. Is this worth it, meaning will this stop my hair from falling? and how often do I do this treatment? Can anybody, who's done this treatment tell me what they think?
hi I use something called regain extra strength.. if you buy it from www.allcures.co.uk (or.com) only like 40 quid.
Does it work?? I dont know until I stop using it. I heard that it will slow the process down at least giving you more years to pull young women like I do :)
Thanks for your quick replies.
Yes, Ethel it would be better to see a GP but I think it's a hormonal problem and as he'll say : one of those things in life... by doing this treatment I'm supposed to hold onto what I've got AND give a boost what's potentially there...
DR WHo : I'm certainly not wanting to pull women as I'm female and straight! However, will mention this to hubby but for me I hope .......... lol
Anybody done this treatment and does it work?
u dont need to see your GP. they can only prescribe you propecia which isnt guaranteed to work. Ethel is an old lady surely it would be better to take advice from someone who has researched it and taken the best option lol
I'v seen a product advertised for something like this (it featured one of the girls out of Bucksfiz i think)
How do they know what supplements you are lacking? I am a bit dubious about products like this, if only it were that easy.
Its one of those things that make us even more susceptible to the "miracle cure". Much better to try your GP first.
Dr Who... you might want to rephrase your comment that "Ethel is an old lady etc etc..." How on earth do you know that? She might be a consultant with an amazing record in hair restoration therapy...
PS Ethel is one of the really good contributors on this site, so please do not denigrate her efforts in any way, unless you know the subject matter better.
Dr Who's not in on this apparently..... like you DW all the same!
That's it Rosetta, am I being taken in? my hair does really fall out so it's not one of those 'I'm being taken in things' but is 70 over the limit??????? for 3 months and does it work?
+ juggerling's right, you don't mess about with Ethel, she's got good advice!
My son 23 is losing his hair. He saw our gp last week about Propecia. She said it was a "Trial and Error" issue and expensive if it did'nt work. As for Regaine she said these off the shelf lotions are a waste of money as, if it worked there would be no bald people about.
Hi Ethel: This supplement is Daily 100% of my Vit. A, Vit.C, Vit E, Vit B1,3,5,6,8,12,selinium, Magnesium , Iron and Zinc.
Normally I don't touch this kind of thing but hair falling out is another kettle of fish! I don't want to end up near bald in later life!
hi my son has alopecia and has hair in patches on his head, has to take thyroxine,it has never grown back normally he has tried most things, and never offered propecia,i agree with dr who, until you have suffered like my son,you research any avenue, juggle dont think that he is having a go at ethel, she is a fountain of knowledge on most things, but dr who has first hand knowledge, when you are desparate for a cure you will research constantly!!!
ure not a nuisance dr who if you can offer up any advice we will listen, was going to ask coch if i could ask her age,cos i went thru a stage of my hair thinning quite badly, not in patches like my son,and my sister has a bald patch on one side of her head!!!
I am female and middle aged and have had quite bad thinning to the crown of my hair for a few years. My doctor is unsympathetic but a friend tried those "Cheryl Baker" tabs called Nourkrin and genuinely thought that her hair thickened up a bit. I was sceptical, but desperate and so I tried them. I've taken them about a year and a half and it's no miracle cure as such, but I really think the rate of thinning slowed down and then gradually the top thickened up a bit. It's nowhere back to what it was before the problem but it's definitely not as thin as it has been. They are expensive, but after 6 months of two a day you can cut down to 1 a day. It may not work for everyone, but I would say they have worked to some degree for me, and to be honest that's more than I expected.
I once asked a top London hairdresser why this occured and he said male pattern baldness in women is because women are now leading more stressful lives than they once did running jobs, families and homes etc..... it certainly true that the older I get the less well I can handle stress, so maybe he's right. He wasn't hopeful about any of the remedies, but I definitely feel a bit of an improvement.
Hope you find something that works.
puddicat I'm 47 and going through the change so I'm moreorless sure it's a hormonal thing.
I'll give this treatment a bash and see if there's improvement it's a 70 gamble. If I have to do this twice a year though it'll work out expensive, but there again if it works, why not?
I was just about to say the same thing. I had some hair loss years ago when my iron levels were down. I was recommended Sea Kelp (from a health food shop) and I could see a difference.
I recommended it to a woman at work who had a serious hair loss problem, and she also thought it worked.
Well as I say I'll give this a go and if no improvement or if it needs re-doing, I'll try the sea kelp.
All in all my scalp might just need iron and massage!
