Trolley Waits

On the local tv news this evening it was reported that two patients had spent more than 29 hours on trolleys waiting for beds to become vacant so they could be admitted to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
Are such long waits common in hospitals across the UK?

They still take up resources and pay to jump the queue. Does not sound a good thing to me. At best one can argue some of the resources they use are idle due to inefficient management. But one should sort that issue out separately.
