It was only because someone read in the paper that he'd been charged with molesting a woman at an event, and was able to turn up at court with his own film of the event showing DLT had been with his wife the whole time, that he got off. //
So on the off chance that someone might be able to clear their name, we should ensure it's tarnished in the first place by publishing it?
This was different to Mikey's point anyway, as DLT had been charged. I think what he suggested was names shouldn't be published until a charge is brought, which it hasn't in Tarbuck's case.

Publicity is neutral. It might help the prosecution, it might help the defendant, it might help neither. It's done in the name of open justice. I hadn't regarded Tarbuck's name as tarnished; I come on here a lot inviting people to reserve judgment until both sides of a case are heard, and I'll stick with that.

It isn't though. If the publicity is that so and so's been arrested for something, everyone's already thinking they've committed a crime. The police obviously think so, or they wouldn't have arrested them.

I bet they don't listen to you. Even after people have been acquitted, or released without charge, their reputation is often irrevocably damaged.
It's human nature to hold onto those kind of suspicions.

Pixie...if only it was that easy !
With our adversarial system, the verdict is often dependant on a theatrical performance in Court. Its what the Jury believe, which may or not may be the truth. Tell the truth and shame the devil doesn't always work.
Anyway my central point remains....with these celebrities being named before they are shamed, the damage is already done, long before the Court proceedings begin.

Jimmy Tarbuck says that he was accused of making inappropriate advances to women on Top of the Pops in 1963 when in fact the programme did not start until 1964.If these Operation Yewtree detectives aren't aware of this basic fact then should they be working on the case,or for that matter any case at all.Meanwhile, their main target which they let go,Jimmy Saville, remains dead.
