Is pyramid selling illegal in the UK? The reason why I ask is that a relative has become involved through her salon business in flogging some kind of health drink and face creams, but the way these products have come to her and how the whole thing operates is basically pyramid selling. The firm is calling it MLM, or multi-level marketing. But it's pyramid selling when you look into the way it works. Somehow I thought this had been banned in the UK - anyone advise me?
Is the product "non existent or worthless"? If it is then the scheme is illegal. http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/fraud_protection/pyramid_schemes If she actually has a product to sell and doesn't make money from recruiting others then its not pyramid selling as defined. Might still be dodgy though....
Ah, Woofgang - I see the weasel words that would be the company's shield. The perceived usefulness of the product is the crux of the matter. It goes along with these detox kits and other snake oils that people choose to believe in. Thanks.
